Fayette among 372 counties that switched vote
The Daily Yonder, a Texas-based Web site that covers rural news and issues, has an interesting look at the 372 counties nationwide that switched from one party to the other in the presidential election, compared with 2004. Fayette was among the 327 counties that voted in 2004 to re-elect President Bush but went for Barrack Obama this year. Click here to see the map and read the analysis.

I love the Daily Yonder for this sole reason–they are willing to undergo the ridiculous for the sole purpose of providing us with cool, little charts to look at. This speaks wonders to the influence of “don’t change horses in midstream” philosophy in keeping an administration around because of the war in Iraq. It also speaks wonders to the failures of the Bush Administration in reeling in moderates in his second term. I don’t think this represents any ideological shifts (there was no democratic shift in local elections) but represents a strong resentment toward president Bush and the conservative party. It has made the possibility for an ideological shift in the future very real. I would be worried if I were a conservative.
