The front hall of Helm Place, which was bought in 1912 by Emilie Todd Helm, sister of Mary Todd Lincoln and wife of Benjamin Hardin Helm, a Confederate general killed in the Civil War. The home was bought in the 1940s by Lexington lawyer William Townsend whose daughter, Mary, left it to the foundation that operates the Mary Todd Lincoln House museum.
