John Cox, owner of Thoroughgraphics, paints a sign recalling Payne Whitney’s Greentree Stable in Red Bank, N.J., which was a Thoroughbred powerhouse in the early 1900s. The sign was one of several Cox made to sell at Saratoga, N.Y., during this month’s racing meet. The studio walls at Cox’s Lexington sign company are covered with antique signs he has collected over the years. Photo by Tom Eblen | teblen@herald-leader.com
