The first named stakes race at the old Kentucky Association track in Lexington was the Brennan Stakes, named for John Brennan, who donated this silver pitcher as the trophy from 1838-1844. The trophy is among many pieces of fine Kentucky silver featured in the new book, “Collecting Kentucky 1790-1860” by Genevieve Baird Lacer and Libby Turner Howard with photography by Bill Roughen.
